STAGETIME

STAGETIME, a Stand-up comedy solo project written and performed by Phillip M Dikotla, is set to showcase on Saturday 26 April 2018 at the Soweto Theatre.

“The concept of STAGETIME was inspired by the term “Stage Time” as used in the stand-up comedy community, normally associated with the process of a comedian’s growth that’s focused on trying new ideas, finding one’s creative voice, practice, and taking risks,” Dikotla explains.

“Also, it’s just about a guy telling stories and jokes in a big random performance space, leading up to a big experimental comedy special. It’s a breath of fresh air for any comedy fanatic”

A live and original one man stand-up comedy show like no other, STAGETIME is just like seating with friends and family, sharing your favourite collection of viral video content, with each clip coming with its own memories of characters, and lived experiences. Through performance, comedic and artistic genius, this highly relatable social experience is brought to the stage live, in a mix medium presentation of viral video clips and Phillip Dikotla’s no-holds-barred display of conversational, outrageous, self-depreciative, twisted, and hilarious mind-bending humour.

Dikotla is a comedian and a multi award winning theatre actor, writer, and director. He holds the Olive Schreiner Award for Drama; Fleur du Cap Award for best performance in a one man show; Standard Ovation Award; Arts and Culture trust impact Award for theatre; Zabalaza Festival Best production; Cape Town Fringe Fresh Festival Award; and the Naledi Award for Best Community theatre Production. His brand of comedy is fresh, woke-ish and intellectual-like. In his everyday-everyman-like demeanour he presents a side-splitting view on our everyday experiences and conversations. His narrative, edgy, self-depreciative humour, brilliant delivery, and performance of his story-like jokes, boldly favours authenticity over likability, and sets him apart from an array of rising comedians in South Africa.

Tickets for STAGETIME are available at R100 at Phillip Dikotla and R150 at the door. For more information email phakathi@currentstate.co.za, or call 0813808919. Follow @PhillipDikotla on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for instant updates.

Unlearn – The Return

“Unlearn is a story about a complex layered young woman who, after a night of euphoric freedom and an unexpected turn of events, decides to make a choice that would spiral into a frenzy of questions about what really happened? It was very important for me to explore the notion of warped time and the unending knock-on effects that circulate in ourselves and those around us when we don't deal with the mental, behavioural and environmental issues that often times we don't have names for.
