Like many Black consciousness activists of my generation, the name Malcolm X occupies a profoundly special place in my heart. I remember during our student activist days how Warrior Mendo Ramncwana and I used to dedicate hours and hours to watching VHS recordings of his speeches.

This week, the Black world marked the 75th anniversary of the birth of the late great, Robert Nesta Marley. To think he was only 36 when he died, yet his ideas as conveyed through song, continue to have a profound impact on our understanding of the self and the world.

uBab'Mugabe didn't just fight British settler-colonialism in Zimbabwe and white racism, but he also supported (not just theoretically), the Liberation Movement (which the DA was not part of) in Southern Afrika, by among others, providing protection, accommodation, training and passage to the leaders of the BCM, PAC and ANC and their armed wings (Azanla, Apla and MK).

They had apparently infiltrated COSAS and enticed some of its members with the opportunity of military training. As part of this ploy, they arranged for the delivery of guns and ammunition to a select number of COSAS members. These guns and ammunition were apparently booby-trapped and when they were delivered to the select COSAS group; they exploded and killed them brutally, as they were inspecting them.

This week marked the 72nd anniversary of the birth of one of the most fearless Warriors of our Race, Mama Assata Olugbala Shakur. Born 16th of July, 1947 in the United States of AmeriKKKa.

Today marks the 42nd anniversary of the brutal murder of Phakamile Harry Mabija. Born in 1950 in Ga-Kgosi Galeshewe, Mabija was a teacher at Zingisa Primary and dedicated a community activist.
