Baxter Radio

In response to the impact of coronavirus and the nation-wide lockdown, the Baxter Theatre Centre has launched a brand-new initiative called Baxter Radio, aimed at recording school set-works, children’s books, new South African works and classics. These will be made directly accessible to The Baxter’s subscriber database and to community radio stations.

Art Biography: Bambo Sibiya

He has performed extremely well in South African art competitions in recent years: in 2012 he was a finalist in the ABSA L’Atelier top ten awards, and the winner of the prestigious Gerard Sekoto Award, which facilitated his completion of two residencies in 2013: at Atelier le Grand Village (Angouleme, France), and at Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris, France)

The Portrait Show

The Portrait Show is not an exhibition solely concerned with the technical abilities of an artist to depict (or, in fact, obscure) a sitter. It is a quest to explore and borrow from the artists’ deliberations about the state of the world today. Over a series of studio visits, conversations and the revisiting of artists statements, Nxumalo has compiled a collection of diverse sentiments about the Anthropocene, explored and expressed by a vibrant group of artists based in South Africa and beyond.

Letters of Hope to Open Rapid Lion Film Festival

Set in 1976 South Africa, Letters of Hope tells the story of 16-year-old Jeremiah, who really wants to be a policeman and can’t understand why his father, the local postman, won’t let him be one and, instead, expects him to follow in his footsteps.
