A Night of Alternative Bliss

It’s almost a year into various levels of lockdown and artists’ innovation simply knows no limits! The Joburg-based duo, Centipede, is giving us a taste of an alternative sound, they’ve been crafting throughout lockdown. Nandi Ndlovu aka Saylahasee, whom you might know from Kajama, joined forces with Hlasko aka Neo Mahlasela to create Centipede.

Lost & Found

In Lost and Found, Nitegeka offers tactile and conjectural works of ambiguous material and weight that articulate narratives of displacement, in particular his own experiences and those of refugees and asylum seekers in central Africa.

Ub’Dope eSibikwa

In its 33rd year of developing world-class creatives, the multi-disciplinary arts and culture service provider, Sibikwa Art Centre has forged a unique partnership with Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year, Jefferson Bobs Tshabalala of Ub’Dope Shishini. Dubbed Ub’Dope eSibikwa, this partnership is for a season of dynamic performances and workshops from 01 February until 31 March 2021.

Back in 1998, Market Photo Workshop alumnus, Themba Hadebe found himself in a decrepit Hillbrow alley strewn with what perhaps in hindsight was to become the new South Africa. Four years into the democratic project, municipal services were deteriorating, and in that grimy alley, Hadebe trained his camera on a police detective. Black, blue shirt, black shoes, tie, and pants lined to a crisp.
