The Soil Returns to Bassline

Bassline Live is delighted to announce the highly anticipated return of THE SOIL to their annual showcase at the Lyric Theatre, a momentous event set to transpire on the evening of Friday, the 3rd of November 2023, at 8pm.

The last time The Soil graced the stage of Bassline Live at The Lyric Theatre, which transpired on the 3rd of August 2019, their performance was nothing short of extraordinary, captivating the audience to the extent that tickets were completely sold out. The anticipation for The Soil's return has been palpable, and the moment has now arrived!

In tandem with this exciting announcement, The Soil is diligently crafting their latest album, with the mesmerizing single, "Thandwa Ndim," a prelude to this much-anticipated album, scheduled for release on the 6th of November 2023. "Thandwa Ndim" features the enchanting vocal stylings of "The Songstress," in collaboration with Thee Legacy.

Reflecting on their return to the stage at The Lyric Theatre, The Soil expressed, "Bassline Live at The Lyric Theatre is akin to returning home for us. We have shared the stage with our beloved Soil family in that venue and have always been inspired by their unwavering support. This time, it will be an entirely new experience as we offer a sneak preview of the fresh material from our upcoming album. As for Theo 'The Songstress,' prepare to be astounded – it's The Soil reimagined. That's all we can divulge," said The Soil.

Bassline, an institution with 29 years of contributions to the music industry, has had the privilege of witnessing remarkable South African talents, among them The Soil, who have graced the stage at various Bassline events and venues throughout their journey. The Soil's performance at the Bassline Fest in 2011 and 2016 left an indelible mark, and their growth over the years has been nothing short of inspiring. Brad Holmes, the Founder of Bassline, shared his enthusiasm for their return, stating, "We are thrilled to have them back on the Bassline Live-promoted stage at the exquisite Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City."

This upcoming performance will see the return of "The Songstress," Theo Matshoba, who now assumes the role of an official group member following Buhlebendalo Mda's decision to pursue her solo career. Theo Matshoba's journey with The Soil is a heartwarming narrative that began when she sent a random message to "her favorite group" in 2011, expressing her belief that an essential element was missing, and that element was her voice. Fast forward to 2016, when Buhlebendalo took a hiatus from The Soil, and the group held auditions, Theo Matshoba stepped in and effortlessly fit the role. Her seamless integration was undeniable, making her the perfect choice to once again complete the trio's harmonious sound with her enchanting vocals.

Prepare to be enraptured by the legendary, multi-award-winning acapella group from Soweto, featuring the extraordinary talents of singer Ntsika "Fana-tastic" Ngxanga and beatboxer Luphindo Ngxanga. The Soil is commemorating two decades in the music industry, and their performance promises to be a magical journey filled with the musical enchantment they are renowned for, accompanied by "The Creator," their original member.

The Soil's influence transcends borders, captivating audiences worldwide with their uplifting and healing melodies. They have achieved remarkable milestones, from winning first prize at the White Nights at St. Petersburg Music Competition in Russia to gracing the iconic Apollo Theatre in New York, NY, in 2014. In 2015, they were celebrated as Metro FM Award winners, and this year, they had the privilege of performing at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The Soil's magnetic presence has extended to international stages, with performances at events such as WOMAD UK, WOMAD Australia, WOMAD New Zealand, WOMAD Chile, and the unforgettable SAKIFO in Reunion Island.

Prepare to immerse yourself in the "Kasi Soul" style, donned in attire that befits the occasion, as we embark on a lyrical journey from Nostalgic Moments to Echoes of Kofifi and beyond, featuring new tracks such as "Thandwa Ndim" and others in the making. The Soil's live performance is a transcendent experience, one not to be missed. Join us as we celebrate this extraordinary musical journey together.
